2003-07-20: Feet On The Move
We had to retrace our steps through the Icefield Parkway to return to see Lake Louise and then begin our trek southwest. Actually we were glad to travel this road first north and then south because it looked different each way. We are still enthralled with the glaciers and majestic mountains.

2003-07-20: Lake Louise
We visited Lake Louise after dinner (easy to do since it doesn't get dark here until 10:30 or so) and were rewarded with bountiful beauty and hardly any crowds. Mountains and glaciers surround this "Diamond in the Wilderness".

2003-07-20: Moraine Lake
We figured this was a good time to see the popular sights of the area so we continued on to Moraine Lake. This lake which is nestled in the Valley of the Ten Peaks is depicted on the old Canadian $20 bill. We started to take the hike around part of the lake but decided perhaps it wasn't such a good idea when we encountered a sign which said that there were bear in the area and you must hike in groups of six or more.

2003-07-20: Waterfall
On the road back to camp we came upon this wonderful waterfall which worked its way down the mountain in steps. What glorious sights can be found everywhere.

2003-07-21: Johnston Falls
Our destination today was Johnston Falls. We hiked along a catwalk that was anchored to the canyon walls in order to reach the falls. What an incredible feeling being suspended over the canyon with the rushing river below. Believe me, the photo doesn't do the falls justice.

2003-07-21: Black Bear
This area is truly bear country. As a matter of fact, they have surrounded the entire tent camping area with an electric fence to protect the bears (and people). The lower ski area is also surrounded by electric fence since they offer gondola rides. We spotted this guy on our way back from Johnston Falls along Route 1A.

Another view of the majestic mountains in this area before we leave.
