Summer 2003 - Glacier to Leavenworth, Washington

2003-07-22: Illecillewaet

Glacier National Park in British Columbia was very different than the Glacier we saw in the states last year. This was a small but nice campground (with a big name that looked like something we might have seen in Wales). This is our view as we sat out under the awning. What you can't hear that we could was the Illecillewaet River roaring down the mountain.

2003-07-23: Meadow In The Sky

We day tripped to the top of Mount Revelstoke where we were rewarded with an area called "Meadow In The Sky". Here there were numerous trails to hike while enjoying the colorful wild flowers, the snow-capped mountains and the Columbia River meandering below us.

2003-07-24: Shelter Bay Ferry

From Glacier we took Route 23 which crossed the Columbia twice but without a road. We love these areas where one must take a small free ferry to continue along the highway. This is the Shelter Bay ferry which took us west to east...

2003-07-24: Fauquier Ferry

...and a little further down the road was the Faquier Ferry which took us east to west across the river. (BTW can you pronounce the name of this ferry - hehe??)

2003-07-26: Osoyooso Lake

Our last stop in Canada was at Osoyooso Lake where we were lucky enough to actually get a lakeside site.

2003-07-26: Cooling Off

Being so close to the lake was wonderful since we've evidently hit a heatwave. The temperatures soared into 3 digits but with the good ac unit in the new rig and the lake right in front of us, we kept cool.

2003-07-26: Osoyooso Sunset

We were treated to a wonderful sunset as we sat outside sipping pina colatas with our neighbors.

2003-07-31: Leavenworth, Washington

The heatwave followed us (or we followed it) so our plans changed a bit and we headed for the mountains. Leavenworth is modeled after a Bavarian village and sits near the Wenatchee River. To get to our campground we paralleled the river through Tumwater Canyon, a scenic stretch of highway.

Driving through the back roads we went through Plain, Washington where we found this wonderful old barn as well as...
