2003-08-11: Sunset on the Sound

2003-08-15: Lavender Farm

We returned to the lavender farms in Sequim while visiting the Olympic Peninsula. Unfortunately the lavender was past its peak this time (we are after all 2-3 weeks later this year). It's still beautiful and fragrant but had begun to lose its color a bit.

2003-08-18: Mt. Baker

Mt. Baker is a glacier-covered volcano that rises 10,781 feet above sea level. We daytripped along the Mt. Baker Highway, past the ski area and to the end of the highway where we were treated to this view of the mountain at an area appropriately named Artist Point. Here we were surrounded by Mt. Baker, Mt. Shuksan and Table Mountain.

2003-08-20: Washington State Ferry

We decided to spend the day enjoying the San Juan Islands on the ferry. Over the years we've found riding the ferry a beautiful, relaxing, inexpensive pastime. Today was no exception.

2003-08-20: Ferry Gridlock

Ferries, like other motor vehicles, can get behind schedule. As we were waiting at the dock on Orcas Island, we noticed ferry gridlock. The ferry at the dock was running behind schedule for it's sailing to Friday Harbor while our ferry, which was headed to Anacortes, had to wait.
