Mexico's Copper Canyon - El Fuerte



2007-02-27: Posada del Hidalgo

Our hotel for the night was the Posada del Hidalgo, a restored 19th century mansion located only half a block from the main plaza. The hotel rambled up and down and was very easy to get lost in! It had several courtyards on several levels, all lush with flowers.

2007-02-27: Palacio Municipal

We arrived in El Fuerte early enough to do a little exploring on our own of this town that is the commercial gateway into the Sierra towns. As we have come to expect, the town hall or Palacio Municipal stood at one end of the main plaza.

2007-02-27: Courtyard

The Palacio Municipal had a huge interior courtyard with a fountain. There was also a very elaborate mural painted on the wall depicting the history of the area.

The church was also located on the square but unfortunately since it was early evening, it was closed for the day.

All of the town plazas seem to have elaborate gazebos.

2007-02-27: Hummingbirds

With all of the flowers and the mild climate, this is definitely hummingbird heaven. We were surprised to see that these hummingbirds were happy sharing the feeder. Our feeder at home is exactly like this one but our hummingbirds are very territorial.
