Quick Trip East - Milford, Connecticut

2002-09-25: Home Again

It's always fun to come back to Milford to visit and see all the old haunts. Perhaps this is a case of appreciating all the things I took for granted when I was younger and living here. Can you believe that there are actually homes build in the 1600's and 1700's still standing and being lived in here!!

2002-09-25: Old Friends and Pizza

Whenever we return to Milford a group of us head to our favorite pizza place for a sample of what good pizza tastes like. Not only is it fun getting together with the old ski bunch but the pie is YUMMY!

2002-09-26: The Old Hang Out

A visit to Pauls, the old high school hangout, is a must when returning to Milford. Believe it or not, their burgers are still good.

2002-09-26: Town Hall Pond

Walking around the back of City Hall brought us to Milford pond and the waterfall. This is one of the places we used to ice skate with our friends on cold winter nights. The Congregational Church on the other side of the pond is so typical New England.

2002-09-26: Taylor Library

Next stop was the old Taylor Library in the center of town. It is now the Milford Chamber of Commerce so we were able to walk around inside and admire the wonderful architecture used on this grand old building. Tryna has many memories here as her first paying job was here as a page.

2002-09-26: Milford High School

Tryna's alma mater, Milford High School (which is no longer a high school but rather government offices) still stands proudly across the street from the town pond. Be sure to check out the chapter on the 40th reunion which was actually the reason for our visit to the old stomping grounds.

2002-09-26: Town Green

Continuing our sentimental journey, we stopped at the gazabo on the green. Ahh what memories!

2002-09-26: Poli Mansion

We couldn't resist a photo of the old Poli Mansion. Mr. Poli was a movie theater magnate who built his summer place here. The enclave included his home as well as smaller ones for each of his children and their families. Al has memories of the days he worked there as a gardener and Tryna remembers going trick or treating there when only the old lady lived there alone. Those were the days!

2002-09-27: Town Hall

Our tour around Milford started at City Hall which looks today just as it did back in the 60's before we left for the west coast. Of course then it was called Town Hall!

2002-09-27: Corn Maze

Our friend Loraine took us for an adventure at a local corn maze. If they hadn't given us a map we probably would still be wandering around lost - well maybe not since we brought engineer Al with us. It really was a fun experience.
