Summer 2005 - Taos, New Mexico Area

2005-06-24: "Place of the Red Willows"

We were excited to have the opportunity to visit the Taos Pueblo, but sad that it was Corn Dance Festival Day which meant no photography (this is a picture of a picture). This pueblo is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in the USA. It is also the only pueblo in the area with multi-level dwellings. It was an incredible place to visit.

2005-06-25: San Jose de Garcia Catholic Church

We took a drive on the Taos High Road that took us through many quaint villages such as Las Trampas where we found this church. It was built in 1760 but is unfortunately no longer used or cared for so the adobe is beginning to deteriorate.

2005-06-27: Cliff Dwellings

As we hiked along the trail we got to view caves which had been hewn out of the soft tuff rock by Ancestral Puebloans 7 or 8 centuries ago. Stone homes once stood in front of many of these caves.
