Summer 2006 - To Watson Lake

2006-06-05: Steamboat Summit

We left Fort Nelson in the rain and as we climbed Steamboat Summit it began snowing. With the temperature outside around 35 degrees and the snow sticking, we were a little concerned. The snow was not only sticking on the ground but also on the windshield. Once over the summit, it began to abate and we were able to breathe easier.

2006-06-05: Muncho Lake

We stopped for the night at Muncho Lake Provincial Park. Our campsite was lakeside, which gave us a wonderful view out the front window. The deep green and blue waters of Muncho Lake are attributed to copper oxide that leaches into the lake. The only thing that could have made this better was brighter skies but we'll take it as it is.

2006-06-05: Evening Sky

Because it is getting dark later and later I'm afraid my photos will not include any sunsets. At about 10:00, the sky brightened a bit and I got this shot.

2006-06-06: The Hot Springs

There are two pools here (Alpha and Beta). We were told that Beta pool was really hot today so we stuck with Alpha. Here Jim, Barb and Tryna are totally enjoying their hot soak. This is the first hot springs I've been too that doesn't have too much of a sulfur odor.

2006-06-06: Signpost Forest

Our destination today was Watson Lake, home of the famous signpost forest. We were amazed at the number of official signs from cities, states, and countries. It is said that this forest has the largest collection of stolen public property! We left Al's hand-carved sign as proof that we were here.
