2009-06-16: Campsite View
This area which follows the course of Horseshoe Canyon was formed by a glacier which ground its way down the Sierra during the last glacial period. When it hit the large granite outcropping known as Reversed Peak, it split, with one arm going north toward Mono Lake and the other moving east to end in a terminal moraine which is Oh! Ridge where we stayed. This is the view out our front window.

2009-06-16: Ant Mound
Out for a walk the first evening we saw this mound which turned out to be an ant mound. I can't believe those little critters can build such a large mound!

2009-06-17: Obsidian Dome
This was a wonderful area of obsidian. It was fun to climb around on this old volcanic area looking for brown obsidian. We didn't find any but did see some with white specks in it.

2009-06-18: Geo Cache
Along the way we found several geo-caches with the help of a hand held GPS and co-ordinates and clues obtained from the internet. When found, you sign the log, take a treasure out and put a new treasure in. This is a really fun sport.

2009-06-18: Bald Mountain Lookout
Our ultimate destination was Bald Mountain Lookout, with a spectacular panoramic view of a piece of Inyo County and the state of Nevada. The dome stands some 9104 feet, a fact I didn't consider as I walked downhill to get this photo. The air is thin and the altitude makes it very difficult to walk (especially uphill!).
