Summer 2009 - Monroe, Washington

2009-07-08: Journey Through Time

We took a different route to Washington and traveled along a marked scenic stretch that was labeled "Journey Through Time". We realized it truly was a journey through time when we started seeing windmills!

2009-07-09: Blueberries

We met up with the Gilbertsons, friends from home and decided it might be fun to go out for a day of berry picking since this is berry season in this area of Washington. We picked blueberries which were very easy to pick...

2009-07-09: Snoqualmie Falls

We made a quick visit to Snoqualmie Falls. The water drops 270 feet through a spectacular rock gorge into a 65-foot deep pool before continuing on downstream. This drop is 100-feet higher then the famed Niagara Falls.

2009-07-09: Home in the Forest

We visited our friends Paul and Sally Hoffman at their home in the forest. No matter how many times I return to their property, I am impressed and enthralled with how they built this incredible house but yet maintained the forest.

2009-07-09: Garden

Sally, who I went to high school with in Connecticut, maintains a huge garden on the one spot of their property that gets sun. Luckily for us she is always willing to share the fruits of her labor so we always come home with bags of just picked veggies.

2009-07-09: Sunset

The campground is on the Skykomish River. Although we weren't lucky enough to get a river site, we can walk down to the boat launch area to view the setting sun.

2009-07-11: Dogwood

As it was getting dark the dogwood tree in the back yard looked like it was covered with snow! We evidently have never been in Washington quite this early so haven't ever seen their dogwood in bloom. This is a totally different species of dogwood than we had our Connecticut state flower dogwood.
