2009-08-12: Campsite

Although it's a bit dark because we're camped in the forest, we do have a view of the water which allows us to keep an eye on sunsets.

2009-08-16: Seine Fishing

We were thrilled to find out that the natives would be seine fishing for the next six days. It was fun (and educational) to see how they are able to capture the salmon in the circle of net. Once they have the net brought in to a small circle, the water begins to churn from all the salmon swimming around. We even saw several seals trying to get their share of food.

2009-08-20: La Conner

Today found us in the small town of La Conner and along the Swinomish Channel where many large boats tie up. In the background you can see Rainbow Bridge (which has been painted orange at least since the early 80's when we started coming to this area). We decided it is called Rainbow Bridge because of its shape.

2009-08-28: Canning

Friday found Al picking blackberries so we could make our annual supply of jam. We were able to put up 16 half-pints this year. The berries have been plentiful and sweet so we've been having either berries and cream or blackberry cobbler every night since we arrived back in La Conner.

Wow the last day of August and from the look of some of the trees around here, fall is in the air. Between the incredible sunsets and the beautiful fall colors, how can I leave here? But leave we must! We now head for Ocean Shores.
