Our First Trip - Lake Michigamme, Michigan

2001-07-28: Lake Michigamme

We are now in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Michigamme Lake is quite large (we were told it is a T shape and is 6 miles along the top of the T and 6 miles down. Although our site isn't right on the water, we have a view of the water between two trailers. It is cool (we are wearing long pants for the first time) and we had some rain.

Took a day trip north on Route 550 to see Big Bay Lighthouse. It is now a bed and breakfast and is in a really pretty setting

2001-07-29: Moose Trail 510

Moose were reintroduced in this area in 1988. We followed route 510, which is a 26 mile dirt road with the hopes of spotting a moose. We did not see one but we did see some beautiful country and did see some deer.

2001-07-29: Civil War Band

We arrived at the Negaunee Iron Industry Museum to find that they were hosting a Civil War Encampment. It was fun listening to this band especially since they played some of the songs we taught the 3rd grade (Dixie, Goober Peas, Battle Hymn and Take Me Out To The Ballgame). We learned a lot about the local iron industry at the museum.

2001-07-29: Order Up

Nothing tastes as good as a camping breakfast especially if it has been cooked by chef Al.

2001-07-30: The Thing To Do

Here at Michigamme Lake everyone has a fire every day. Of course we had to go along with the crowd. Here is Al tending the flames.

2001-07-30: Moose Trail

Followed another moose route today but did not see moose. We did see a small dark brown animal we thing was a mink! This is Arfelin Lake, a piece of paradise we found along Route 607. Note the change in our attire.
