2009-09-12: Crabbing
|
The best crabbing in Seaside, according to the book, is the 12th street bridge. We evidently drove there at the right tide as there were many people lowering their crab baskets from the bridge. We stopped to talk to them and saw many different types of baskets and just as many stories of the best bait to use. We had crabbed with our friends the Crosbys from their boat in Coos Bay but this was our first experience with baskets from a bridge.

Construction on the bridge began in 1962 (the year Tryna graduated high school) and was completed in 1966 (the year she graduated college)!

2009-09-16: Youngs River Falls
|
In 1806 Patrick Gass, a member of the Lewis and Clark expedition wrote "There is a large river that flows into the southeast part of Hayley's Bay upon which about 20 miles from its mouth, our hunters discovered falls which had about 60 feet of a pendicular pitch". They never named the falls so today it is called Youngs River Falls because it is a part of the Youngs River.
