2012-07-28: Whitewater Canal

Whitewater Canal, completed in 1847, was designed to improve transportation and develop commerce within the state. Canal traffic flourished for several years but proved to be a financial disaster for the state. The advent of the railroad during the early 1860's marked the demise of the canal. In 1946 Indiana began the process of reclaiming and restoring a 14-mile section of the original canal. We took a ride on a barge down the canal pulled by a pair of Belgian horses.

2012-07-29: Bag Lady

The town of Carmel contracted artist J. Seward Johnson to create life-sized bronzes for the sidewalks. He has used a special formula to color his creations that make them seem very real. One does a double take wondering if this lady is actually out doing her shopping or if she is a bronze.

2012-07-29: Carnegie Library Building

This is an outstanding example of a smaller Carnegie Library. During the years of 1883-1929, there were some 2500 libraries funded by Carnegie in the US. This building was a library from 1914 through 1972. In 1976 it became the City Hall.
