Our home for the next week is in the driveway of our friends the Beneficos. We're one block from the beach - what more can we ask for!

2012-08-15: Feast of the Assumption

My friend Ellie informed us upon arrival that today is the Feast of the Assumption of Our Blessed Mother into Heaven and that on this day Italians believed that on her way to heaven, the Blessed Mother would pause to bless the oceans. They also believe that if you go into the water and bless yourself on August 15th, you will receive The Blessing along with The Cure. Along with her daughter and grandson, we all went to the water and got blessed!

2012-08-15: Charles Island Bar

During low tide, a sand bar to Charles Island appears. Evidently the skipper of this sailboat was not aware of the bar, got grounded as the tide went out and then the boat landed on its side as someone tried to tow him out.

2012-08-16: Jimmies

When we were in high school, the old Jimmies in West Haven was one of the places to "hang out" and get a good eastern hotdog. After redevelopment, the new Jimmies was built which really isn't the same but is a good place to still get a good hotdog.

2012-08-16: Pepes

New Haven is the home of pizza and Pepes is the place to go. It always amazes me to see the lines that form to get through the doors.

2012-08-16: Large

This is a large pizza! Ten of us went and devoured enough pizza for an army and drank more then our share of beer! Oh how I wish we had a Pepes at home!

2012-08-20: Pez Factory

Little did I know that there was a Pez factory in the next town. I guess it has been there forever but only last year opened a visitor center. Bill and Dorothy went to check it out with us.

2012-08-21: Gazebo

Milford is like so many New England towns with a beautiful gazebo on the town green. This was where part of the Oyster Festival was held.

2012-08-21: Town Pond

The Congregational Church overlooking town hall pond is by far one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. I think every time I come back, I stop and take a photo right from this very spot.
