2001-08-16: Small Town Ontario Feet

As we traveled along Route 31 from Kingston to Ottawa we went through some neat small towns. This is a picture of a church as we came through the town of Vernon.

2001-08-16: View From Our Site

We're camped east of Ottawa in the town of Cumberland along Route 174. It's amazing that we are in a rural such a area and only 30 minutes from the city.

2001-08-16: Ottawa Parliament

Ottawa is the capital of the country and so all country buildings are located here. The Parliament buildings dominate the city from Parliament Hill.

2001-08-16: Notre Dame Church

The cathedral basilica of Notre Dame was built in 1839. It has beautiful stained glass windows, a carved neo-Gothic interior, and a gilded statue of the Madonna and child.

2001-08-19: Governor General's Footguards

Rideau Hall is the historic home of Adrienne Clarkson, the Governor General of Canada. The residence is guarded by footguards just like the ones we've seen in England. The Queen of England is still the titular head of state in Canada and thus there are many similarities in the two countries.

Because we're here on the east coast, Chris insisted that he wanted a lobster dinner. Here he is ecstatic with his crustacean.
