2012-08-23: Drainpipes
|
The old houses on the side streets of Palmyra are built right on the sidewalks. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the drainpipes attached to telephone poles above the parked cars over the street! You sure could have a problem if your sunroof leaked and you parked under one of these!

2012-08-24: Green Dragon Market
|
Every Friday the Green Dragon Market in Ephrata comes alive with vendors, farmers and buyers. It claims to be the largest flea market/farmers market in the country with both indoor and outdoor areas. It was like going to Quartzsite with the added attraction of having Amish farmers selling their produce. We probably didn't see half of it but we sure enjoyed what we did see.

We also saw quite a few tobacco drying barns. The only other place either of us had ever seen this was in the south many, many years ago.

We are loving all the unique brick and stone buildings in this area. It was difficult to choose one to post but this was so unique I had to use it. I have never before seen a house with chimneys like this.

|
The streetlights you see driving through the town of Hershey look like wrapped and unwrapped Hershey kisses. So unique.
We met up with Linda and Richard from Sun Lakes in Hershey and went on the Hershey Chocolate ride that showed us what goes into making a candy bar.

2012-08-27: Forry's Mill Bridge
|
We set out today to see some of the 31-covered bridges of Lancaster County. Forry's Mill Bridge, built in 1869 at a cost of $2969, has a single span, wooden, double Burr arch truss design. The deck is made from oak planks. It is painted red on both the inside and outside (this is the traditional color of Lancaster County covered bridges). Both approaches to the bridge are painted in the traditional white color. The bridge is 103-feet long.

It was great being able to plug the coordinates for the bridges into our GPS and let "Tasha" take us there. Not only did we get to see 6-bridges but we also saw some beautiful farmlands and barns.
