2014-08-19: Golden Trees
As the sun was beginning to set over the Skykomish River, it changed the green leaves of the trees in back of us and across the river to a beautiful golden color.

2014-08-20: Black Dog
We decided to take a day trip to Snoqualmie to celebrate our 48th anniversary. We found the Black Dog Art Cafe, a really funky restaurant, for lunch. The tables all looked to be from the 60's and 70's with not one matched set! The absolutely delicious food was served on plates from all different sets and we ate using mismatched flatware. I'm thinking maybe I need to do that at home just for fun - the seed has been planted!

2014-08-20: Snoqualmie Falls
Snoqualmie Falls is a 268 foot waterfall and is one of Washington's most popular scenic attractions. More than 1.5 million visitors come to the Falls every year, where we were able to wander through the park, and see the falls from the observation deck.
Most of the Snoqualmie River is diverted into the power plants, but at times the river is high enough to flow across the entire precipice, which creates an almost blinding spray. Obviously that wasn't the case today.

2014-08-21: Snohomish Farmers Market
It's always fun to come to this area because I get to hang out with my high school friend Sally and her hubby Paul who live here. Tonight we met to wander through the Snohomish Farmers Market. These cranberry shell beans were interesting looking...

2014-08-21: Flowers
There were several booths selling bouquets of super colorful flowers for only $5.00 a bunch! On the way back to their house, our friends drove along the river and past the fields of these local flower growers.

2014-08-21: Deer
Sally and Paul live in the country surrounded by fabulous trees and ferns and one huge garden. It was really fun for me to see "their" deer which visit them pretty much daily for hand-out apples.

2014-08-22: Beets
Sally is always very generous with bounty from her garden. She gave us beautiful green beans, scallions that looked like ones from the store, lemon cucumbers which are round and yellow but taste like a normal cucumber, zucchini, chard and wonderful sweet beets that we immediately boiled.

Tonight we headed to the Brooklyn Brothers Pizzeria in Everett, one of Sally and Paul's favorite pizza places and somewhere we always try to go with them while we're in this area. Yum!!

2014-08-22: Open Mic
After pizza we went back to Snohomish to the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater for their open mic event. Tim Noah is an American songwriter, singer, and children's entertainer from Seattle who has received several Northwest Regional Emmy awards. Following a distinguished career, he bought a hundred-year-old church and began the transformation from church to Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater - "a cozy home for the performing arts". Every Friday night is open mic night and we convinced Al he really had to participate which he did. We were so proud of him!

2014-08-23: ALS Challenge
My friend Vickie Roy passed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on to me today. I figured since we were enjoying beautiful, warm weather, I should do it today and pass it on. Because these arthritic hands wouldn't be able to lift a huge bucket filled with ice water, and because Al had to be the videographer, I decided to use my faithful blue bowl filled with all the ice cubes we had in the freezer and water to the top. Let me tell you - it was COLD!!
