2015-07-31: Lone Pine

A trip to La Conner wouldn't be complete without at least one picture of Lone Pine. It's not quite as full or tall anymore because of damage from a wind storm here last winter.

2015-08-02: Art Festival

We decided to go to the Coupeville Art Festival this year instead of the one in Anacortes. It is a bit smaller but every bit as nice. It was fun watching this basket weaver create one of her beautiful baskets.

2015-08-02: Pure Intent

Another reason for attending this Art Festival was to see one of my third grade parents that I hadn't seen for probably 20 years. It was fun seeing Kim Williams among her beautiful clothes.

2015-08-02: Admiralty Head Lighthouse

...this, 30-foot-tall lighthouse constructed of brick and stucco. It was built in 1903 and is the second lighthouse to stand in this spot. The design by Carl Leick incorporated thick walls meant to withstand earthquakes and the concussion of Fort Casey's guns. The lighthouse was deactivated in 1922.

2015-08-02: Sunset

There is nothing quite like the sunsets we experience here in La Conner. I'm sorry if you're bored with my sunsets but they are my "thing".

2015-08-10: Sunset

The colors in the sky at sunset have been incredible this year. One night the color after the sun had set was actually blood red. Tried to get a picture but couldn't.

2015-08-13: Greenbank Farm

Our destination on Whidbey Island was going to be Useless Bay, a neat little secret spot we found years ago. When we got there we realized it was no longer a secret since there was not a parking space to be had. We started back toward home and made a stop at Greenbank Farm. We haven't been there for many years and found that it has expanded considerably. This beautiful heron sculpture was gracing their pond.

2015-08-13: Cap Sante

After dinner we took everyone up to Cap Sante, a 37 acre forested promontory in Anacortes that overlooks the marina, the city of Anacortes, the San Juan Islands, Fidalgo Bay, the Cascades and March Point where the refineries are located.

2015-08-14: Blue Heron

Sitting eating our breakfast we saw this blue heron out the front window hunting and eating his breakfast too. Just loving watching the birds - we've had nuthatches and chickadees in our bird feeder and a covey of quail wandering through in front of the coach every morning.

2015-08-16: Clams

A native family had spent the best part of the day clamming and had to haul their heavy take back up to their car that was parked near our coach. Al helped get the net full of clams closer. While they rested we talked about their life on the Swinomish reservation.
