The Liberty Theater in Astoria rose from the ashes of the fire of 1922 and opened for business on April 4, 1925 showing Hot Water, a silent film. In its day, the Liberty was a Class A Vaudeville House.

2015-09-30: Liberty Theater Interior
We have always wanted to see the inside of the theater and this trip we did! The Liberty Theater has been lovingly restored and now operates as a performing arts center, concert hall and elegant event venue. The first time winner of Best Historic Venue is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the best examples of what a '20s-style theater would have looked like, in its retrofitted Italianate style, the vaudeville-motion picture theater is a palace in the Northwest.

2015-10-01: Sundown
Our campground here in Seaside is a couple of blocks from the beach but has this wonderful wetlands area that the migrating birds seem to love. It's also a nice place to take a picture as the sun is going down.

2015-10-02: Peter Iredale
The Peter Iredale was built in 1890 and was part of the Pacific Coast Wheat Fleet that transported grain from the Pacific Northwest to Australia and coal and wool to England. It was 287 feet long, 30 feet wide and 23 feet deep with 4 masts. In 1906, with an empty cargo hold, the Peter Iredale ran aground as it was bound for Portland. This is all that remains of her today.

2015-10-02: South Jetty
The South Jetty at the mouth of the Columbia River took 27 years to build, beginning in 1886. The 6.5-mile jetty helps to contain and trap the shifting sand deposits at the mouth of the river and thus ensure a relatively stable shipping channel. A trip to this area is just not complete without a visit to the mouth of the Columbia River.

2015-10-04: Youngs River Waterfall
Although the best view of Youngs River Waterfall is at the bottom, the path down is way too steep for me so I had to settle for this view. The waterfall drops 54 feet at a 90 degree pitch and is a veiling horsetail type of falls.
