Our First Trip - The Cabot Trail

2001-09-03: Waiting For The Ferry

We decided to take the ferry from PEI to Nova Scotia. We arrived early and were the first in line. The 1-1/4 hour ferry ride was smooth with blue sky and puffy clouds. Who could ask for more? We drove from Caribou to Baddeck along Route 105 where we'll call home for now.

2001-09-03: Cabot Trail

Drove the Cabot Trail Loop which was beautiful. The cliffs, shoreline and mountains along this trail are awe inspiring. It was a lot of driving but well worth it.

2001-09-03: White Point Harbor

We made many side trips along the Cabot Trail to see harbors such as this one. We are love the small harbors and are always glad to strike up conversations with the locals. We met a lobster/crabman here who was telling us that the crabbing season is 2 months long with a total catch limit of 35,000 pounds. He got his limit in 5 days this year!

2001-09-03: Neils Harbor

Another quaint little harbor with a fantastic view of the craggy shoreline just north of Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

2001-09-03: Welcoming Crew

Our new friends at the Meat Cove Welcome Center were both friendly and helpful. This little side trip took us along 5 miles of gravel road but was well worth the time.

2001-09-03: The Moose Hunt Continues

We're still looking for moose (we did find these antlers in Meat Cove). We would have seen some today if Al had stopped with all the other cars along the side of the road but law abiding citizen that he is, he kept driving much to Tryna's consternation. She was going to be angry but figured a moose wasn't worth it.

2001-09-03: Scarecrows Galore

We happened on a huge field of scarecrows. With a good imagination and lots of creativity, someone had put together this collection of scarecrows that resemble famous people as well as occupations and hobbies. This one is of children playing ring around the rosey.

2001-09-03: Moose Sighting

Woops not a moose but scarecrow Tryna pretending to be one. Does this count??
