2016-04-24: Jimmies

Upon arriving in town we headed to Jimmies to meet my niece and great-nephew Mikey for lunch. Al is never satisfied until he has had some fried whole belly clams from iconic Jimmies.

Tuesday night we thought we were going for a quiet dinner with Ellie and Joe but were surprised to find that the old group had gathered to surprise us and help celebrate our anniversary.

2016-04-26: Audubon Society

We went to the Audubon Society in Milford to see if the ospreys were on the platform and what other wildlife we could see. No activity on the platform but we did see lots of egrets and other water birds.

I can't ever remember there being deer in the neighborhoods of Milford but evidently they are around now.

2016-04-27: Devastation

Hurricane Sandy was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, and the second-costliest hurricane in United States. I was shocked to see the damage it caused in Milford and even more surprised that there are still houses tagged for demolition but still waiting. According to our friends part of the problem lies in getting FEMA money and also that some people just walked away because they couldn't afford to rebuild.

2016-04-27: Lobster Hut

The Lobster Hut is a food wagon on the Post Road and we were told that they make the best lobster rolls in town. It wasn't here four years ago when we visited so we decided today was a good time to see if indeed they were good. There must have been a whole lobster on each one! And yes, they were yummy.

2016-04-27: The Green

Every town in New England has a town green surrounded by churches, businesses and sometimes homes and Milford is no exception. Al and I posed in the gazebo, a place where there were always concerts, Santa and wedding photos.

2016-04-27: Town Hall Pond

One just can't come to Milford and not visit Town Hall Pond. To the left, behind the tree is where my high school was and it was on this pond that I spent many hours ice skating and who knows what else.

2016-04-27: Gulf Beach

Our sentimental journey next took us to Gulf Beach, home of the famous submarine races! You can see Charles Island in the distance - I was shocked to see how few trees were left on the island. I suppose Hurricane Sandy played havoc out there too.

2016-04-27: Aster Road

Back to where it began - this is the first house my parents owned and it was in the living room of this house that Al and I got married 50-years ago.

2016-04-27: Soundview

And here is the little house Al and I bought to live in after we were married. Oh yes, this was truly a step back in time.

2016-04-27: Zuppardi's

There is no way we can visit Milford and not go for pizza with the gang. Zuppardi's pizza is as good as it ever was!

2016-04-28: Poli Mansion

Sylvester Poli, an Italian immigrant, built theaters, hotels and office buildings. His Poli theaters became Fox-Poli and eventually Loew's-Poli. He and his wife Rosa had five children and being a family man, he built the Villa Rosa Terrace in Milford so the family could spend their summers together. It consisted of the main house and ten waterfront cottages which he deeded to his children. Al worked one summer as a gardener at the Villa Rosa and I can remember going trick or treating with my friends at the mansion. The old lady would invite us in, chat a while and give us lots of candy.
