Salt On The Road
A Travel Photo - Journal Of Tryna and Al Morton

Our First Trip - Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia

2001-09-06: Causeway Waves

To get from Cape Breton Island to the rest of Nova Scotia, one must cross the Canso Causeway. There was quite a high wind today as we drove the causeway which caused our motorhome and car to get pelted with salt water waves.

2001-09-06: View Out The Front

We pulled into Nimrod Campground in Sherbrooke and found that not only were we the only ones here but our site overlooked a Indian Harbor Lake. Al says this is shades of Cass Lake with our view - Tryna thinks it's even prettier.

2001-09-06: Sherbrooke Village

We visited Sherbrooke Village Restoration Area while we were here. In 1969, the province took over half of the village of Sherbrooke with the idea of establishing a place that would depict a typical Nova Scotian village of the 19th century. 2001-09-06: Tryna's In Jail

What did she do this time to get her locked up? Interestingly enough, the jail was located on one side of the warden's home. Village folk were locked up for such infractions as drunk in public, speeding, not paying the bills. Actually, if a man didn't pay his bills, they locked up the wife so the man had to care for the kids and do all the house chores. After that he quickly paid his bills!

2001-09-06: Greenwood Cottage

This home belonged to the local shipbuilder. Notice the fretwork on the roofline. We were told that any home with this type of intricate woodwork was called a cottage. Can you see the horse drawn wagon in front of the cottage?

2001-09-06: Mist On The Lake

When we woke up Friday morning, the lake was shrouded in mist. It was too beautiful not to photograph (even though the temperature was 39 at 7:30). Check out the reflections in the water.
