Our First Trip - Cape Cod and Plymouth

2001-09-25: Rainy Ride

Driving from Vermont to Massachusetts in the pouring rain was no fun. Our windshield wipers couldn't even keep up with the rain when we ran them on high. This was our first time to drive in the rain during this trip so I guess we can't complain. The trees are barely starting to change here.

2001-09-26: Typical Cape Cod

The shoreline of the Cape is every bit as wonderful as we remember it. The sandy beaches, the moored boats, the blue water, the dunes and the cottages all complete the mental picture of Cape Cod we have carried with us for some 34 years.

2001-09-26: Cape Cod Lighthouse

We stopped and viewed every lighthouse as we drove the loop out to Provincetown and back to Falmouth where we're staying. We've decided to post only one of them though they were all glorious. This light has two names - Highland and Cape Cod. It was first built here in 1797 and was moved about 100-200 yards to its present site in 1997.

2001-09-27: Plymouth

Since the town of Plymouth was so close, we decided a visit was in order. How fun it was to see Mayflower II, a replica of the original ship after teaching about it for so many years. This town is full of pilgrim history as well as some of the original houses.

2001-09-27: Plymouth Rock

It is said that when the pilgrims stepped onto shore here in Plymouth, they did so on huge boulder. That rock has since been split into 3 pieces which are on display for all to see (this piece is here in Plymouth, a second piece is found in the Plymouth Museum and the last piece is in the Smithsonian).
