Our First Trip - San Antonio

2001-11-26: Medina Lake

The campground is right on this beautiful lake about 35 miles from San Antonio. Our campsite is about a block from here. Because we're in a wooded area, we can't see the lake from the motorhome, but it's just a short walk to get there. There is lots of wildlife here - deer wander through our campsite and sleep beneath the trees just outside the motorhome, birds are enjoying the seed we've put in the feeder (we've had cardinals, little crested grey birds we haven't identified yet, mini doves, and woodpeckers to name a few), red squirrels who hang upside down from the branch above the bird feeder to feast on the seed, jackrabbits and swans in the lake.

2001-11-27: The Alamo

San Antonio is a wonderful city to visit. We totally enjoyed wandering around the Alamo.

2001-11-27: The Riverwalk

The San Antonio River runs through the city. To capitalize on this, they have developed The Riverwalk, a stretch where you can walk along the river, dine at every imaginable kind of restaurant, shop in unique boutiques, be entertained by street musicians and ride a barge down the river. We did it all and loved every minute of our time along the riverwalk.

2001-11-27: View from the Riverwalk

San Antonio, like California, has a distinct Spanish history which is evident in the architecture, food and goods.

2001-11-30: Luckenbach, Texas

We took a scenic drive to Frederickburg, a German settlement here in Hill Country. Lots of neat little shops and wonderful German food. On our way back, we went to Luckenbach which was made famous by Willie Nelson in one of his songs. It claims to have a population of 3! There is a little store with a bar in the back (there were two musicians playing country western and swigging beer when we were there) and a dance hall which hosts large gatherings we were told. All in all, a very interesting stop J

2001-12-03: Resident Deer

We are loving watching the deer as they graze in and around our site. Here they are in front of the coach.
